Huraydhah is one of the rural areas of Hadramout governorate, it is 200 km far away from the center of Seiyun district – Hadhramout. As one of those rural areas, there is a lack of opportunities for youths to build their skills and capacities, particularly girls. As the culture there is very conservative where girls are often socialized to assume domestic and care responsibilities.
Enas Al-Haddad is a young girl who was born and raised in Huraydhah, she has finished secondary school, yet she couldn’t go to college as it is far away from her city. She has a strong ambition and willing to help and provide support to her people and community. Enas has heard about YFCA nutrition program. She considered this as a great opportunity in which she could support and assist women in her area. Enas applied to be one of the Community Health Volunteers at a Food Distribution Point. Now she is a supervisor of Shoaebah FDP. Her responsibilities and the other two CHVs are to deliver the assistance to the beneficiaries and raise awareness among PLWs and parents related to nutrition, public health, hygiene and different topics. “It was very difficult for us to speak with people, as well as finding a hardness to persuade and discuss with them” Enas said. "Gradually by the time, my colleagues and I became more confident, our communication skills have been developed, we became able to persuade others and very keen on the language that we use according to the level of the targeted beneficiary. this program was fruitful and what we have learned is priceless, it has had a significant positive impact on our skills, capacities and abilities" Enas added. In the end, Enas on behalf of all CHVs wants to express her sincere thankfulness to YFCA and WFP who sponsoring and implementing this program that helps young girls building their skills, finding them a source of income to cover their financial needs in these challenging circumstances and poverty in Yemen
