Fatima, a pregnant 24 years old woman, lives in Sa’adah district of Sa’adah governorate. She had suffered from a long experience of abortion, previously. However, each time she gets pregnant, she does not seek any professional medical consultation. She tends to visit a small unspecialized clinic nearby the area of her residence. ‘Our financial situation is so difficult, my husband is working for a daily wage, so I couldn't visit a qualified health facility as I am living in a remote area’. Fatima bitterly said.
This time, Fatima was very excited as it was the first time for her reaching the seventh month of pregnancy. She kept visiting the small unspecialized clinic nearby her house, where they misdiagnosed her case, which led to severe bleeding and pain that they couldn’t handle . One of the nurses advised Fatima’s husband to take her to Aljumhori hospital.
Aljumhori hospital is located in Sa’dah district of Sa’dah governorate which is assisted by YFCA operational implementations and UNFPA funds. It is considered the reference service delivery point for RH services in the area. This obstetric emergency hospital provides various maternal, newborn and RH services (Antenatal care, postnatal care, family planning and normal delivery).
Fatima arrived to Aljumhori Hospital in a very critical condition of severe bleeding. Clinical examination, lab test and ultrasound were immediately applied to her. The doctor told her that she had a placental abruption and a narrow pelvis which may lead to unstable or abortion. Unfortunately, many women are unaware of the side effects of having a narrow pelvic . In addition, women with narrow pelvic are much more likely to miscarry during early pregnancy than women without them. Fatima got frustrated and scared of losing her fetus one more time. “Having a baby became my unreached dream. Each time I get pregnant I lose my baby.’’ Fatima mentioned with tears in her eyes.
She was given life-saving solutions, medications and blood transfusions to compensate for the lost quantities immediately and went through the cesarean section urgently. Fortunately, the team was able to save the mother and her baby successfully. Now she is fully aware of the importance of the monthly follow-up of her condition with a specialized doctor.
“I wish every woman could get such qualified services in her place of residence,” Fatima said gratefully.
