Success story: The Health Centers of Beit Al-Faqih and Durahmi in Hodayidah
Health Center / Durahmi - Al Hudaydah
Fatina did not expect one day she may become a mother, or to have a child in her embrace and to indulge her child with tenderness and compassion, like other mothers. Her bitter experience with pregnancy and childbirth has left her with frustration and hopelessness that one day she may become a mother…
Fatina stated that she married four years ago and during that period she was pregnant twice, but she would have a miscarriage every time due to a germ infection in her womb that makes it impossible for her to continue the pregnancy.
"I was pregnant twice and every time I got sick and I would have a miscarriage. I did not know why. I couldn’t bare it and I kept wondering when will this all end? I was mesrabile and I crying all the time, "says Fatina.
Fatina was very disappointed with the lack of chances of treatment and the elimination of the malignant germ. The poverty and misery her family was going through and the lack of health centers nearby added to her frustration.
"There are no nearby health center or clinic where we can get treatments. People here are in dire need and poverty. They are also ill. We really don’t know what to do" added Fatina.
Fatina was held for the third time in a state of complete despair though out the stages of her pregnancy. In the fourth month of her pregnancy, Fatina heard the news of the establishment of a health center close to her village (Health Center in the Directorate of Durahmi) supported by the Yemen Family Care Association and funded by the OCHA. The news gave Fatina a glimmer of hope. She then decided to go to the center to inquire for help that would enable her to see her lifelong dream, born to light up her life. The doctor received her after hearing her story, reassuring her, and giving her hope. Fatina went through the necessary tests, and ultra-sound. The doctor diagnosed the disease and prescribed medication for Fatina and followed Fatina health periodically until the time of birth. Life has returned to the spirit of Fatina after unexpected developments, she says, she has become a familiar face in the center, constantly following her condition with the specialized medical staff who do their best to make the most of their potential and care. The germ was gone, the features of the pregnancy became clearer, and the joy and anxiety are bound to meet Fatina steadily. It was time for her to deliver her baby. Fatina was brought to the health center and a mixture of deep emotions overwhelmed the pain of labor. Fatina reached the moment she has been waiting for. She then heard the scream of life emanating from underneath as her weary face was light with joy announcing her entry into a new stage filled with hope and life.Fatina continues to visit the health center, but not alone or to follow up on her health condition, but with her newborn, who is barely separated by a blink of an eye.
