Since its services resumption in November 2017 by YFCA and DFID, the health centers in the districts of Damt, Al-Hasha and Juban in Al Dhale governorate have been witnessing an increasing flow by local communities who seek various health services including malnutrition treatment. A nutrition section is opened and well-equipped in each center, provided with qualified health staff and trained in the community malnutrition program.
Ritaj Ibrahim - a nine-month baby girl- was brought to the Munquir Health Center in a crucial health status. The data showed that her length was not more than 71 cm and the weight of 5.8 kg; while measuring the circumference of the middle of the arm through MUAC was 10.5 cm, which is an indicator to severe acute malnutrition.
The YFCA nutrition team in the health center provided the baby girl with the needed solution, the necessary nutritional treatments and followed up the situation closely until her condition improved significantly, as confirmed by her mother during her frequent visits to the health center.
According to the health and nutrition team in the center, the case of Retaj is replicated on many similar cases, including the 28-month-old Anas Mohammed who, in his turn, was suffering from the severe acute malnutrition after doing the MAC measurement which was only 11 cm while weighing 7.3 kg.
The child has been given the necessary medicine, the appropriate nutritional treatment and follow up his health and nutritional status until he is recovered.
The mother of Anas, a resident of the village of Hadydah in Damt, said she was shocked when she saw her son collapsning before her eyes; she was unable to know what to offer him, and at the moment of near despair she heard about the health center near her village. Her son's illness did not wait very long as she spared no effort until she arrived to the health center of Munqir carrying her dear child between her arms hoping for a quick recovery.
"Thanks to God and the health team at the center, my son got recovered. I visited the [center] for couple of times and today Anas is fine and well”- Mother reflected.
