Sa’adah / Ketaf / Health: Al Sahlain Health Center
Haj Mohammed is keen to regularly visit the health center in the district of Ketaf to follow up his health and conduct the necessary checkups. The 60-year old Hajj Mohammed suffers from blood pressure and diabetes which caused him physical problems, he told us. Haj Mohammed, whom we met at the Al Sahlain Health Center in Ketaf district which is supported by the Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) and funded by Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF) / OCHA to provide services to more than 30,000 residents of the district and the nearby whereabouts. The impact of the disease on his health was great as he is a diabetic for more than 10 years. He was suffering from the lack of a health center close to his neighborhood. When his health condition worsenes, he was forced to go to the provincial capital of Sa'adah for medical examinations and checkups: "I used to walk for more than four hours exposed to the sun" said Haj Mohammed. "I used to travel to Sa’adah over the mountains and the off road but now I can access to the health centers in couple of minutes”.
Haj Mohammed added: "People are in difficult circumstances and diseases are spread over, this center is a [relief] for all vulnerable people of the area”.
Currently Haj Mohammed and many others are constantly are treated in the health center and benefit from the health services and facilities provided by. The health team of the centre assured us that the case of Haj Muhammad has become stable and is being monitored continuously. They also stressed the great demand in the center, where there are about ninety cases treated per day, which means the importance of the support of the center for humanitarian services - in the most exceptional circumstances imposed by the circumstances of war and continued shelling.
The work of the team in the center is much appreciated by the local people of the area and also they appreciate the work of the outreach team (the mobile care teams) who reach to those people unable to reach to the center for any reason.
