A day after he was suffering from severe diarrhea and vomiting, Ammar Ra’ed Al-Shaimi was treated to the ASlah Health Unit (ORC) in Asala area, Al-Taweelah district in Al-Mahweet Governorate, after his condition deteriorated and became on the verge of death.
In the middle of the night of March 30, 2018, Ammar, a four-month-old child, was severely injured and his parents were forced to pick him to Aslah Health Unit (ORC) in the Asala area. He was like a dead body.
The situation was very serious, forcing doctors to refer Ammar to the health center in Taweelah, which is run by the Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) with funding from UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
On the next day evening, at 2:00 pm, Ammar arrived to Altaweelah health center and was in serious condition due to severe diarrhea and vomiting.
"He was in a state of coma and shock, and his vital signs are almost paralyzed, and he suffers from severe dryness due to loss of large quantities of fluids," Doctor said.
"Ammar's case was very serious, and I thought he was fighting death, I lost hope that he would return to life again because of severe diarrhea." Ammar's father said.
The diagnosis of Ammar's condition was as follows:
- Acute watery diarrhea
- The number of diarrhea 5-6 times
- Severe vomiting
- Drought degree 2
- Cholera test result: positive
The eyes of the Ammar's father and the staff of the center were watching the doctor examining Ammar, all of them hoping to save his life, but they were fear of announcing his death at any moment.
After the first two hours of his arrival to the center, the vital signs began to return and gradually, the doctor calculated the amount of fluid needed by Ammar during the next 23 hours, and then began to give medicines to stop vomiting.
Ammar in the center received constant care and medical attention for all time, in the next morning his health had improved significantly, and began taking oral fluids.
"I was very happy and I thanked God very much when diarrhea was stopped and Ammar returned to the movement again,also I thank the treating doctors and the Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) for providing high quality health services for free". Ammar's father said.
