Mansour Masoud is 20 years old married man and has one daughter. The biggest obstacle in his life is his disability, he is blind.  As a result of his disability, he cannot get work and he cannot efficiently serve neither his family nor himself. He and his family live in a temporary shelter, which is an iron tent covered with thick fabric, with an area of 4 * 3m.  This tent is where they sleep, live and cook “Many times when my wife cooks using the firewood, my daughter gets suffocated due to the rising smoke and the high heat.” Mansour said.  As for electricity, Mansour stated that his neighbor connected a cable from his house to Mansour’s tent to provide the tent with an electricity source. Although it has two bulbs and an air cooler, the cable has burned down several times, damaging the dynamo of the air cooler.

One of the significant suffering Mansour and his family are facing, is the non-existence of a latrine in their shelter. “When we need a to use a bathroom, we have to go to the neighbor’s house. This is possible during the day, however, at night we cannot go out so we have to stay until the morning.”  Mansour’s wife mentioned.

Through YFCA shelter maintenance intervention, Mansour’s case has been responded by providing him with a basic service, constricting a latrine of zinc inside the yard and installing an electricity grid within the shelter.

Now! Mansour and his wife have easy access to their basic needs.
