Zahra Yahya Tolmbaj, a 29-year-old housewife, and her husband, a teacher, resided in a poor village in Al-Sukhna, Al-Hodidah Governorate, with her mother-in-law. As Zahra’s pregnancy neared its end, she began to feel the pains of labor, and her amniotic fluid began to descend. Zahra and her husband were ready to go to the nearest supported health facility, Al-Sukhna Hospital, for delivery. Due to heavy rain and modest infrastructure, the road leading to the hospital was cut off, and Zahra and her husband had to wait for several hours in pain before they could safely make it to the hospital. By the time they arrived, Zahra’s amniotic fluid had nearly run out, and she needed to give birth as soon as possible to save her baby’s life from suffocation. Thanks to the Comprehensive and Integrated Response to CEmONC & BEmONC project, supported by UNFPA and implemented by the YFCA, Zahra received prompt and appropriate intervention from the medical staff at Al-Sukhna Hospital. Despite the difficult circumstances, the medical staff ensured the safe delivery of Zahra’s baby, who was born with a bluish tint due to oxygen deprivation. The medical staff took all necessary measures to ensure the baby’s safety and wellbeing.
