Mobile Clinics

Essential Antenatal, obstetric and post-partum care have been all provided in mobile clinics reaching communities including those in remote, poor and marginalized areas. Seven mobile clinics functioned in Sana’a/Mahweet, Amran, Hodeidah, Hajja/Haradh, Hajja, Aden and Ibb in 2011, while due to lack of funding only 4 mobile clinics functioned in 2012, covering Sana’a/Mahweet and Amran, Hajja/Haradh and Abyan.

Qualified Obstetric and other medical staff including specialists, midwives, nurses and lab technicians provided the following services in mobile clinics:

1. Distribution of FP methods and FP services including counseling.

2. Diagnosis and treatment of gynecological diseases

3. Ante Natal Care (ANC) for pregnant women

4. Skilled attendance for natural birth

5. Post natal care including family planning

6. Counseling and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases

7. Education on natural breastfeeding and neonatal nutrition

8. Preventive and treatment measures for infertility and fertility problems

9. Immunization and treatment of children under five years of age

10. Immunization of women of childbearing age against tetanus.

11. Essential lab tests

12. Ultrasound

In addition to the above services, both RH centers and mobile clinics provide reproductive health education for non-pregnant women and girls and early detection services for breast cancer.

Improvements to mobile clinics in 2011-2012 include addition of new lab tests, making a medical specialist available, provision of  primary health care services including treatment and diagnosis of malnutrition among children.During 2011-2012,more than 27received capacity building on FP service provision, reporting and statistics, and counseling in RH.

YFCA partnered with Yemeni Women Union to raise awareness on early marriage in Sana’a, Mahweet and Dhamar in 2011. Mobile clinics were funded by UNFPA, CLP, OCHA and UNICEF.
