Maintaining personal and environmental hygiene is just as necessary as food and water to maintain good health. Proper hygiene can save their lives and protect them from deadly diseases.
Therefore, Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) conducted 100 awareness sessions on hygiene promotion in nine areas of five districts in Shabwah governorate through 50 community hygiene volunteers (26 Females and 24 Males) in Sep/2022.
The sessions explained the key hygiene promotion messages as follows:
• Cholera and watery diarrhea.
• Transmission and prevention of infectious diseases.
• Proper ways to store and purify water.
• Waste safe disposal.
• Hand washing and personal hygiene.
The number of the sessions' attendees in Sep/2022 reached 1293 individuals including women, men, boys and girls. Moreover, the sessions targeted IDPs, Marginalized, returnees and host communities.
This activity is considered one of the activities for the project of WASH and humanitarian food assistance for IDPs, host communities, returnees, and marginalized groups in six districts of Shabwah Governorate-Yemen, which is funded by the German Humanitarian Assistance (AA) in partnership with Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH).
The main objective of this activity is to raise awareness of the targeted community about water and health-related practices that reduce the incidence of diseases in the health centers and change community behaviors. Besides, provide easy access to sustained, safe and clean water for the targeted population.
