YFCA completes repairs and maintenance for 125 flood affected shelters in Aden
Monday, 02 March, 2026

YFCA completed urgent repair and maintenance work for 125 shelters at Al Sha’ab camp in Al Buraiqa district, Aden governorate, in coordination with Aden local authorities and with funding from Caritas Germany through Catholic Relief Services (CRS). The activity is part of the Rebuilding Lives: Urgent Shelter Solutions for Alsha’ab camps’ Flood‑Impacted IDPs project.
Following flood damage earlier this year, YFCA teams carried out targeted structural repairs to restore safe living conditions for displaced families. The works included repairing structural damage and reinforcing shelter frames to improve stability, re‑instating roof sheeting to protect households from rain and weather exposure, and improving drainage channels inside and around the camp to reduce water pooling and future flood risk. YFCA also conducted rapid rehabilitation of essential infrastructure such as toilets and sanitation facilities to protect health and dignity.
All works were implemented according to agreed specifications and safety standards, with community feedback mechanisms integrated throughout the process to ensure repairs met beneficiary needs and priorities. Engineering monitoring and inspection procedures were applied for quality control at each stage.
This intervention restores safer, more habitable shelters for 125 affected households and strengthens camp infrastructure against future shocks. YFCA remains committed to coordinating with local authorities, partners and camp communities to address urgent shelter and WASH needs and to support longer‑term recovery for flood‑impacted IDPs in Alsha’ab camp.
