YFCA celebrated World Breastfeeding Week 2026, observed from 1–7 August under the slogan “Natural Immunity and Healthy Growth,” through a series of awareness activities in Taiz Governorate. The activities were implemented under the Promotion of Preventive and Lifesaving Nutrition Interventions project, funded by the World Food Programme (WFP).
As part of the celebration, YFCA provided health facility staff with key messages on breastfeeding to strengthen their capacity to promote optimal breastfeeding practices and encourage families to adopt healthy feeding practices. The association also organized three awareness sessions in Ash-Shamayatayn, As-Silw, and Al-Mwasit districts, bringing together mothers, community volunteers, and nutrition staff.
The sessions were officially opened by district health office managers and featured videos, visual presentations, group discussions, and Social and Behavior Change Communication for Infant and Young Child Feeding (SBCC-IYCF) messages. These approaches helped engage participants and reinforce key breastfeeding practices.
The discussions highlighted the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, early initiation of breastfeeding with colostrum, and continued breastfeeding alongside complementary foods, emphasizing their role in supporting children's healthy growth and development.
A total of 95 participants took part in the awareness activities and committed to sharing the knowledge and key messages with their families and neighbors, helping extend awareness of breastfeeding within their communities.
Through these activities, YFCA continues to promote preventive and lifesaving nutrition practices and strengthen community awareness of breastfeeding as an essential foundation for children's health, growth, and development.
