Climate Change in Yemen: Funded by YFCA, Youth Pave the Way in the LCOY

LCOY, organized by the Sustainable Communities Solutions Foundation and generously funded by Family Care Association, recently concluded in Mukalla, Hadramout governorate. The conference was designed to address urgent climate change issues in Yemen and contribute to the forthcoming COP28 conference in Dubai.

On the inaugural day of the conference, participants engaged in comprehensive discussions encompassing a broad array of climate change topics. These discussions included current climate policies, adaptation strategies, environmental protection laws, international climate-related programs and projects, and Yemen's significant challenges in addressing climate change.

The second day of the conference was dedicated to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants emphasized the pivotal role that youth and civil society organizations play in redefining the SDGs in Yemen, particularly in the context of climate change. They also highlighted the need to intensify efforts to develop solutions and action plans.

Working groups were established to concentrate on specific areas of interest, such as renewable energy initiatives, climate change adaptation strategies, and traditional clay architecture. The conference also underscored the role of youth in environmental work and advocacy, recognizing the effectiveness of youth-led environmental initiatives and promoting their participation in policy-making processes.

YFCA played a significant role in the conference, contributing to discussions, workshops, and working groups on a variety of topics. These included climate resilience in Yemeni agriculture, combating desertification, green entrepreneurship experiences, the role of media in raising climate awareness and addressing issues such as floods, hurricanes, rising sea levels, and sea pollution. The importance of environmental protection, natural resource conservation, and the development of sustainable practices were among the key topics discussed at the conference.

The conference concluded with a ceremony honoring the valuable contributions of the participants. Mr. Mohanna Al-Jabali, the General Director of YFCA, expressed his deep appreciation for the efforts of the youth and the Solutions Foundation team in organizing and implementing the conference in his closing remarks. He stressed the importance of involving Yemeni youth in climate issues and amplifying their voices on the global stage. He also emphasized the need for partnerships between youth initiatives, civil society organizations, and local and international stakeholders to effectively address climate challenges.

In conclusion, YFCA expressed its gratitude to the dedicated LCOY team in Yemen for their remarkable efforts in ensuring the success of the conference. YFCA remains committed to empowering Yemeni youth and promoting sustainable development, working with all stakeholders to build a resilient and sustainable future for Yemen.
