In a significant boost to the agricultural sector of Byhan district, Shabwa Governorate, YFCA executed a cash-for-work intervention. This initiative is part of the BRIGHTLY project, funded by FCDO.
The activity provided temporary employment to the local community, instilling a sense of empowerment and ownership among the participants. A key achievement of the project is the construction of a diversion retaining wall with gates in the Jahrabah-Byhan district. This infrastructure is pivotal in protecting agricultural lands from flooding and is expected to substantially enhance agricultural productivity in the region.
The diversion retaining wall also plays a crucial role in the agricultural infrastructure by enabling effective water flow management and irrigation system control. The efficient distribution of water facilitated by this activity is anticipated to significantly boost agricultural activities in Byhan.
The successful implementation of the cash-for-work intervention and the construction of the retaining wall stand as a testament to YFCA’s commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment. These efforts are contributing to the long-term growth and prosperity of the Byhan district and the broader Shabwa Governorate, marking a milestone in the region’s journey towards sustainable agricultural development.
