YFCA Promotes Hygiene to Combat Deadly Diseases
Friday, 13 September, 2024

Alazariq District, Ad Dali’ Governorate,  –
In a significant effort to improve public health,  YFCA conducted 36 awareness sessions on hygiene promotion across six areas in Alazariq District during August 2024.
This activity is part of the ongoing project titled “Integrated and Multisectoral Health and WASH Rapid Response to Cholera Outbreak in Alazariq District,” funded by Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH). The project’s goal is to raise awareness about water and health-related practices that can reduce disease incidence and promote behavioral change within the community. Additionally, it aims to ensure that the population in targeted communities has sustained access to safe drinking water.
These sessions, led by six trained community hygiene volunteers, aimed to underscore the critical importance of maintaining personal and environmental hygiene.
Proper hygiene practices are as essential as food and water for maintaining good health. They can save lives and protect individuals from deadly diseases. YFCA’s initiative focused on key hygiene promotion messages, including:
•    Cholera and watery diarrhea prevention
•    Hand washing and personal hygiene
•    Water management: proper methods for storing and purifying water
The sessions saw a robust turnout, with 379 individuals attending, including women, men, boys, and girls. The initiative specifically targeted internally displaced persons (IDPs), pregnant and lactating women (PLWs), and host communities.
By educating the community on these vital topics, YFCA hopes to foster healthier living conditions and mitigate the spread of diseases, ultimately contributing to the well-being of the residents in Alazariq District.
