Tuesday, 01 October, 2024

Ad Dali’, Yemen – In a concerted effort to combat the ongoing cholera outbreak, Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA), in coordination with the health office in Ad Dali’ governorate, ramped up its support for managing and treating Acute Watery Diarrhea (AWD) patients. This initiative is being implemented at the Diarrhea Treatment Center (DTC) located in the De Al-Jalal Maternity and Childcare Health Center in Al Azariq district.

This activity is part of a broader project titled “Integrated and Multisectoral Health and WASH Rapid Response to Cholera Outbreak in Al Azariq district,” funded by Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH). The emergency project aims to address the cholera outbreak through a comprehensive and targeted response, prioritizing surveillance, case management, infection control, and public health interventions.

The targeted DTC has been bolstered with essential medicines, medical equipment, infection prevention and control (IPC) supplies, and information, education, and communication (IEC) materials. Additionally, allowances have been provided to 16 deployed healthcare workers (HWs). In September 2024 alone, the DTC served 565 individual beneficiaries, showcasing the significant impact of these efforts.

The initiative underscores the importance of a coordinated response to prevent further spread and mitigate the impact of cholera on the affected communities in Ad Dali’ Governorate. By enhancing the capacity of the DTC and ensuring the availability of necessary resources, YFCA and its partners are making strides towards controlling the outbreak and safeguarding public health.
