Thursday, 03 October, 2024

Al Azariq  District, Ad Dali’ Governorate– In a significant effort to improve public health, Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) conducted 36 awareness sessions on hygiene promotion throughout September 2024. These sessions, held in six areas of Alazariq District, were led by six trained community hygiene volunteers.

This activity is part of the ongoing project “Integrated and Multisectoral Health and WASH Rapid Response to Cholera Outbreak in Alazariq District,” funded by Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH). The project’s goal is to raise awareness about water and health-related practices that can reduce disease incidence and promote behavior change within the community. Additionally, it aims to ensure that the population in targeted communities has sustained access to safe drinking water.

The sessions focused on critical hygiene topics, including the prevention of cholera and watery diarrhea, the importance of hand washing and personal hygiene, and proper water management techniques for storing and purifying water. These key messages are essential in preventing the spread of deadly diseases and maintaining good health.

A total of 374 individuals, comprising women, men, boys, and girls, attended the sessions. The initiative specifically targeted internally displaced persons (IDPs), pregnant and lactating women (PLWs), and host communities, ensuring that the most vulnerable populations received this vital information.

By educating the community on these crucial hygiene practices, YFCA hopes to significantly reduce the incidence of diseases and improve overall health outcomes in Alazariq District.
