YFCA Implements Construction of Emergency Latrines
Tuesday, 07 October, 2025

YFCA implemented the construction of 80 emergency latrines and 10 latrines for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Al-Sudayyat Camp, addressing the urgent need for adequate sanitation facilities in the region. Funded by the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF), this initiative aims to enhance access to safe and dignified sanitation for the most vulnerable communities in Marib City and Khab Wa Ash Sha'f districts.

The lack of proper sanitation poses a significant threat to public health, particularly the risk of fecal-oral disease transmission, which disproportionately affects children. The newly constructed latrines serve as a vital intervention, promoting safety, privacy, and dignity for the residents.

Each of the 80 temporary latrines has dimensions of 1.5 × 1.5 meters and is equipped with essential features, including a pit, a toilet, faucets, internal plumbing, and a solar-powered lighting system. Additionally, the 10 PWD-specific latrines, measuring 1.6 × 2.3 meters, include ramps, sanitary drainage systems, flush systems, and handrails to ensure accessibility for individuals with mobility impairments.

This project not only addresses immediate sanitation needs but also contributes to long-term public health and environmental protection, significantly reducing the risk of diseases and waterborne infections in the community. The initiative underscores YFCA's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for vulnerable populations and promoting sustainable solutions in humanitarian settings.
