Thursday, 14 August, 2025

YFCA conducted a joint field visit to assess the implementation of a vital health and nutrition project in Al Waziyah District. Within "Providing Essential and Integrated Health and Nutrition Services to IDPs and the most Vulnerable Populations," is designed to support displaced and underserved communities by offering crucial healthcare and nutrition services.
The project enhances access to healthcare through Al Garieef Health Unit, which serves over 25,000 individuals, including patients from neighboring areas. This visit provided an opportunity to monitor project progress and prepare for forthcoming donor engagements.
During the visit, the team observed the delivery of a wide range of essential services by trained healthcare workers. These services include free medical consultations, reproductive healthcare, nutritional assessments and counseling, laboratory diagnostics, and medication dispensing, with a particular focus on maternal and child health. The facility actively promotes infant and young child feeding activities, contributing positively to community health.
The delegation participated in a community awareness session led by community health volunteers, highlighting the importance of breastfeeding and maternal health as part of a national health campaign. Feedback from healthcare providers and beneficiaries was overwhelmingly positive, showcasing the effectiveness of the services offered. Local leaders expressed appreciation for the intervention, noting its positive impact and the need for continued support for health initiatives in the district. Beneficiaries remarked on improvements in health awareness and access to healthcare, reflecting the project’s success in the community.
The visit generated key recommendations aimed at further enhancing the program's impact. Plans include establishing a Therapeutic Feeding Center to bolster nutrition services, introducing a Diarrhea Treatment Center to address health needs, and enhancing reproductive health services through infrastructure improvements and staff training. Al Garieef Health Unit is also set to transition to a health center status, enabling it to better meet growing service demands.
The project has demonstrated a strong commitment to effective healthcare delivery, with YFCA showcasing its multisectoral expertise throughout the visit. YFCA is dedicated to scaling up interventions in alignment with community needs and ensuring the continued success of its programs.
