The UNFPA hosts a two day work shop in Youth, Peace building, and Security at the Sheeba Hotel in the capital city, Sana’a for UN agencies and NGOs to discuss the issues of Youth, Peace and Security (SCR) 2250 which is the first consultation meeting on Youth, Peace and Security.
YFCA was presented by Ms. Deina Murshid – Protection and Education officer. The discussion covered Youth and Peace security matters in general. Different views and definitions were shared among the attendees on the matter. Participants of the workshop will also be part of the UNFPA forum for youth and peace. The UNFPA has also stated its interest in forming Partnerships with NGOs.
Project proposals in relation to Youth, Peace, and Security were urged to be innovative. Women and youth were urged to be the main target groups of related projects
Different pathways to prevent, as well as interventions youth from going to war were also discusses and were one of the many focus of the workshop. The outcome included giving the youth choices, alternatives, and a reason not to go or incentives to return home.
Challenges and difficulties which face today’s youth were also given great importance such as the current economical state, education, security, SGBV, the absence of rules / laws, they rapidly growing violence, freedom of speech.
The UNFPA has promised to make sure the efforts of the workshop does not go in vain, and is hoping to have follow up meetings to make sure that the words about youth and peace are spread throughout the community and to have youth involved and participate in the Ministry of youth and Sport. The UNFPA also promised to keep the NGOs updated on Youth and Peace building matters and updates.
