YFCA, recently hosted a team from UNICEF HQ and Global WASH Cluster to conduct a comprehensive Humanitarian Action Review on the WASH sector in Yemen. The review aimed to assess the sector's preparedness and response to large-scale emergencies, with an emphasis on integrating lessons learned into improved WASH preparedness, response, and coordination.
During the visit, the review team engaged in a participatory review process with YFCA representatives. The discussions focused on the support provided by WASH cluster, UN agencies, and INGOs in Yemen, and the challenges and successes of WASH interventions in the country. The review team comprised Omar El Hattab, WASH Adviser at UNICEF HQ, Ross Tomlinson, WASH Cluster Coordinator at Global WASH Cluster, and Jamal Shah, WASH Specialist at UNICEF.
The visit was considered critical, given Yemen's ongoing humanitarian crisis, which has been exacerbated by conflict, displacement, and economic instability. WASH interventions are essential to preventing the spread of disease and ensuring access to clean water and sanitation facilities. As a result, the review team identified strategies for continued improvement and discussed ways to ensure that WASH interventions in Yemen are effective, sustainable, and responsive to the needs of the most vulnerable populations.
YFCA expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share its experiences and perspectives with the review team. The organization remains committed to working collaboratively with UNICEF and other partners to improve WASH interventions in Yemen. YFCA will continue to keep its supporters and partners updated on its ongoing efforts to improve the WASH sector in the country.
