YFCA Provides Cash Assistance to Combat Food Insecurity in Yemen
Thursday, 15 June, 2023

As part of its efforts to alleviate food insecurity in Yemen, YFCA has provided the second round of cash assistance to 200 households in Bayhan district of Shabwah Governorate. The cash assistance is part of the Unconditional Cash Transfer (UCT) activity, which is one of the components of the Yemen Hunger Crisis Response project funded by Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH).
The beneficiary households were selected based on their vulnerability and food insecurity levels, according to the targeting criteria for the UCT activity. YFCA distributed the cash assistance through Focal Service Provider (FSP) distribution points, in coordination with local authorities and Community Committees (CCs) in Bayhan district. Each beneficiary household received an amount of 131,500 Yemeni Rials, which would help them to meet their basic food needs and improve their food security situation.
The UCT activity aims to ensure that households in targeted communities are better able to meet their basic food needs through cash assistance. It also aims to promote early action, response, and resilience by integrating food assistance with livelihood activities. The cash assistance provided by YFCA is expected to help the most vulnerable groups bridge the gap in their food security situation, increase their access to essential food items, and improve the food consumption scores of the targeted household members.
The  UCT activity YFCA implemented is a significant step toward addressing food insecurity in Yemen, and it highlights the importance of coordinated efforts from NGOs, local authorities, and community committees to tackle this crisis. The timely and dignified delivery of food assistance is crucial to ensure that vulnerable people in Yemen can access essential food items and improve their food consumption scores.
