DKH Team Visits “Responding to Hunger Crisis in Yemen” Project Sites in Shabwah Governorate

A team from DKH recently conducted a two-day field visit to monitor and evaluate the ongoing project activities in two districts-Bayhan and Ar Rawda-of Shabwah governorate, Yemen. The project, funded by DKH and implemented by YFCA, aims to address the hunger crisis in Yemen by providing cash assistance and cash-for-work opportunities to 500 vulnerable families.

During the first day, the DKH team visited the cash-for-work interventions in Lamater, Qarn Bamhrez, and Nabwah areas, in Ar Rawda district, where 300 vulnerable workers were engaged in improving community assets such as irrigation canals, soil water harvesting, and flood protection. The team interacted with the community committees and the project beneficiaries to get their feedback on the impact of the activities on their food security and livelihoods.

The DKH team expressed their appreciation for the quality of the selection of interventions for this activity, as it achieved the main goal of providing income and food for the beneficiaries, while restoring major community assets in Ar Rawda district that serve the community tangibly.

On the second day, the DKH team visited the cash assistance distribution points in Wadi and Raydan areas, in Bayhan district, where 200 families received cash transfers to meet their basic food needs. The team also engaged with the beneficiaries, listening to their stories of how the cash assistance helped them cope with the crisis.

The field visits proved to be a valuable opportunity for the DKH team to witness firsthand the impact of the project and to get feedback from the beneficiaries. They were impressed with the quality of work accomplished thus far and remain confident that the project’s continued success in achieving its goals.

Moreover, the field visits facilitated the establishment of relationships between the DKH team, the YFCA team, and the community committees. These relationships are essential for the long-term success of the project. The DKH team expresses gratitude for the opportunity to visit the project sites in Shabwah, and they are confident that the project will continue to have a positive impact on the lives of the people in this region.
