Monday, 18 September, 2023

YFCA has completed the repair and rehabilitation of the Lahmar water asset in Bayhan district, located in the Shabwah Governorate of Yemen. The project, implemented as part of the ongoing WASH and humanitarian food assistance initiative, aims to provide safe drinking water to the affected communities. The Lahmar water asset restoration project was carried out in collaboration with German Humanitarian Assistance (AA) and Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH), who provided funding and support.
The Lahmar water asset underwent extensive repairs and upgrades, including the installation of a solar-powered system with a motor and submersible water pump. YFCA also implemented necessary safety measures by constructing protection walls around the well and rehabilitating the engine room. To ensure the cleanliness of the water supply, a chlorine injection device was installed, working in conjunction with the solar system.
Thanks to these efforts, an estimated 1,600 beneficiaries, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), host communities, returnees, and marginalized groups, now have access to safe and clean water. This vital intervention will significantly contribute to reducing the spread of water-related epidemics and diseases, enhancing the overall well-being of the community.
YFCA's dedication to addressing the water crisis in Bayhan district is a testament to their tireless efforts in providing essential services to those in need. This achievement marks a significant milestone in the ongoing mission to ensure access to safe and sustainable drinking water for the people of Shabwah Governorate.
