YFCA Empowers Older IDPs in Marib City with Livelihood Support
Monday, 25 September, 2023

YFCA has implemented the "Supporting older people with sustainable livelihoods in Marib City of Marib Governorate (SOPSL)" project, funded by HelpAge. The project aimed to address the food security, nutrition, and economic needs of the most vulnerable older people, including older people with disabilities, and their families within the IDP communities.
As part of the project activities, theoretical and practical training sessions were conducted, equipping the elderly IDPs with essential knowledge and skills. The sessions focused on various aspects of goat care,  and how to ensure their well-being and productivity. Furthermore, YFCA distributed vital resources to 20 elderly IDPs, including 42 goats, along with kits designed to assist them in their livelihood endeavors. These kits contained crucial supplies and equipment like feed, medicines, and tools, enabling the IDPs to effectively rear and nurture their goats.
The project also aimed to create long-term sustainability for the elderly IDPs by linking them with microfinance institutions. Through these institutions, the IDPs will have access to financial services, including white loans, to support their entrepreneurial activities. Furthermore, YFCA facilitated connections with local traders and restaurants to help the IDPs secure better prices for their livestock when they expand their operations.
By empowering older IDPs with sustainable livelihood opportunities, YFCA and HelpAge have taken a significant step towards improving the living conditions and economic stability of the most vulnerable members of the Marib city community. This project not only addresses immediate needs but also fosters self-reliance and resilience among the elderly population, ensuring a better future for them and their families.
