In a significant move towards improving public health and hygiene, YFCA, trained 25 community hygiene volunteers in the governorates of Ad Dali’ and Shabwah as part of the Multi-sectoral Emergency Response to support IDPs and other vulnerable groups in Ad Dali’ and Shabwah Governorates funded by the German Federal Foreign Ministry (AA) in partnership with Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH). These volunteers, comprising 19 females and 6 males, were nominated by the Rural Water and Sanitation Authority Project. Over a span of four days, the volunteers received intensive training on various aspects of hygiene promotion. The training covered key topics such as the importance of hygiene in our lives and environment, effective conduct of awareness sessions, proper waste disposal, protection of water sources from pollution, and the correct use of chlorine for water disinfection. The training also emphasized the role of volunteers in changing bad habits in the community. The training resulted in several positive outcomes. The volunteers gained a comprehensive set of skills and knowledge about public hygiene and are now equipped to conduct effective awareness sessions in their communities. The training also led to an increased awareness among the participants about the importance of public hygiene in our lives and environment. Most importantly, the participants are now capable of effecting change in the community’s habits regarding public hygiene. This initiative by YFCA underscores the critical role of community engagement in promoting public health and hygiene, particularly in regions grappling with challenges to their water and sanitation infrastructure.
