June 10
In a significant move to bolster public health and hygiene in Yemen, YFCA distributed the second and third rounds of essential hygiene kits to 600 households across three districts—Mayfa’ah and Ar Rawdah in Shabwah Governorate, and Al-Azariq in Ad Dali’ Governorate. This initiative is a key component of the Multi-sectoral Emergency Response project aimed at supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable groups in the region, generously funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (AA) in partnership with Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH).
The distribution activity is designed to provide basic and consumable hygiene items to IDPs, vulnerable individuals, and host communities. The selection of beneficiaries was meticulously carried out, adhering to the criteria established by the World Health Organization (WHO). The YFCA secured nomination lists from local public health offices and engaged community volunteers to identify and reach those who fulfilled the WHO’s eligibility requirements for receiving the kits. A thorough verification process followed registration to confirm that the selected households met the necessary criteria.
The initial round of kit distributions commenced in April 2024, with the subsequent rounds taking place in June. Each of the 600 households received one set of basic hygiene items and two sets of consumable hygiene items. The basic hygiene kits included 2 kilograms of laundry detergent powder, 10 bars of hand soap (each weighing 80 grams), 6 women’s sanitary pads, and water containers of 10 and 20 liters. The consumable hygiene kits comprised an additional 2 kilograms of laundry detergent powder and 6 sanitary pads.
These hygiene kits are tailored to satisfy the fundamental hygiene needs of families, equipping them with the necessary tools to maintain cleanliness and health. This effort underscores YFCA’s dedication, alongside its partners, to enhance public health and hygiene standards in Yemen through the execution of such impactful activities.
