Al Azariq, Ad Dali’– In a bid to enhance public health and combat deadly diseases, YFCA conducted a series of hygiene promotion sessions in Alazariq District, Ad Dali’ Governorate. Recognizing that maintaining personal and environmental hygiene is as crucial as food and water, YFCA’s initiative aims to save lives and protect communities from illnesses such as cholera and watery diarrhea.
This initiative is part of a broader project titled “Integrated and Multisectoral Health and WASH Rapid Response to Cholera Outbreak,” funded by Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH). The project aims to raise awareness about water and health-related behaviors that can reduce disease incidence and promote sustained access to safe drinking water in the targeted communities.
Throughout July 2024, YFCA organized 36 awareness sessions across six areas in the district. These sessions were led by six trained community hygiene volunteers who delivered key messages on hygiene practices, including the importance of hand washing and personal hygiene. The sessions reached a diverse audience of 374 individuals, encompassing women, men, boys, and girls, and specifically targeted internally displaced persons (IDPs), pregnant and lactating women (PLWs), and host communities.
By educating the community on proper hygiene practices, YFCA hopes to instill lasting behavioral changes that will lead to healthier lives and reduced strain on local health centers. The association’s efforts underscore the vital role of hygiene in maintaining public health and preventing the spread of infectious diseases.
