YFCA Deploys EMMTs for Rapid Flood Relief in Marib
Tuesday, 20 August, 2024

Marib, Yemen – In the wake of devastating rains and floods, a coordinated effort by local health authorities and humanitarian organizations has brought much-needed relief to the most severely affected camps. The torrential downpours have left many families vulnerable, with limited access to clean water, shelter, and essential healthcare services.

The impact of the floods has been severe, causing widespread damage to makeshift shelters and increasing the risk of waterborne diseases. Families are struggling to cope with the aftermath, and the need for immediate medical attention is dire.

Recognizing the gravity of the situation, a comprehensive response was swiftly organized by YFCA . A mobile clinic, part of the Emergency Medical Mobile Teams (EMMTs), was deployed to the heart of the affected areas in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps. The team provided crucial healthcare services, including medical consultations, treatment for flood-related illnesses, and preventive care to mitigate the spread of diseases. Additionally, hygiene kits were distributed, and health education sessions were conducted to empower the community to protect themselves during these challenging times.

This intervention is part of a broader initiative funded by the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF), aimed at providing integrated life-saving health, nutrition, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) interventions for the most vulnerable communities. This includes addressing cholera outbreak hotspots in Ma’rib Al Wadi at Marib and Khab wa Ashaf at Aljawf.

This swift and coordinated response highlights the importance of preparedness and collaboration in addressing the immediate needs of vulnerable populations during natural disasters. As the affected communities begin the long road to recovery, the ongoing support and solidarity from local and international partners remain crucial.
