Shabwah & Ad Dali’- August 2024
Recognizing the critical importance of water as the essence of life, YFCA is intensifying its efforts to protect this vital resource and safeguard the Yemeni population from widespread water-borne diseases, such as cholera, which have claimed numerous lives, particularly among women and children.
In collaboration with the General Authority for Rural Water and Sanitation Project (GARWASP), the National Water Sanitation Authority (NWSA), and local health offices in Shabwah and Ad Dali’ Governorates, YFCA conducted comprehensive water quality tests at the household level in August 2024. These tests, carried out by Water Quality Monitors (WQMs), involved measuring various parameters including Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Electrical Conductivity (E.C), pH, Free Residual Chlorine (FRC), salinity, and temperature. Water samples from different community sources were analyzed in YFCA’s laboratories in Ad Dali’ and Shabwah to assess their physical, chemical, and biological quality and recommend appropriate treatment methods.
This initiative is part of the ongoing Multi-sectoral Emergency Response project aimed at supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable groups in Ad Dali’ and Shabwah. Funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (AA) in partnership with Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH), the project focuses on:
•    Enhancing access to safe drinking water in targeted districts.
•    Raising community awareness about the importance of using clean water, proper methods of water transportation and storage, water purification and sterilization, and avoiding harmful practices.
•    Contributing effectively to the reduction of water-related epidemics and diseases.
Through these efforts, YFCA aims to ensure the provision of safe drinking water and improve public health outcomes in Yemen’s most vulnerable communities.
