YFCA Conducts Water Quality Surveillance in Shabwah and Ad Dali
Saturday, 28 September, 2024

In a crucial initiative to safeguard public health, YFCA actively conducted water quality surveillance across four targeted districts in Shabwah and Ad Dali' Governorates. This effort aimed to combat the alarming spread of water-borne diseases, particularly cholera, which disproportionately affected women and children in the region.
Partnering with the General Authority for Rural Water and Sanitation Project (GARWASP) and the National Water Sanitation Authority (NWSA), YFCA executed six water tests in each governorate during September 2024. Utilizing Water Quality Monitors (WQMs), the organization measured key water quality indicators, including Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Electrical Conductivity (E.C), pH levels, Free Residual Chlorine (FRC), salinity, and temperature. Water samples collected from various community sources were analyzed in YFCA's laboratories in Ad Dali' and Shabwah.
This initiative was part of a broader project aimed at providing multi-sectoral emergency support to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and other vulnerable groups in the region, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (AA) in partnership with Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH).
Key objectives of the project included:

  • Improving access to safe drinking water for residents in the targeted areas.
  • Educating the community on the importance of clean water usage, proper transportation, and storage methods, as well as the significance of water purification.
  • Contributing to the reduction of water-related epidemics and diseases.
Through these efforts, YFCA was committed to enhancing water safety and public health in Yemen's vulnerable communities.
