Shabwah and Ad Dali' -
Maintaining personal and environmental hygiene is critical for good health, akin to the necessity of food and water. Recognizing this, the Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) has undertaken a significant initiative to promote hygiene in vulnerable communities. In August 2024, YFCA conducted 200 awareness sessions across two districts in Shabwah Governorate and three districts in Ad Dali' Governorate, engaging 25 community hygiene volunteers.
The awareness sessions covered essential hygiene promotion messages, including:
- The dangers of cholera and watery diarrhea.
- Understanding the transmission and prevention of infectious diseases.
- Proper methods for storing and purifying water.
- Safe disposal of waste.
- Importance of hand washing and personal hygiene.
This initiative is part of a broader project aimed at providing multi-sectoral emergency responses to support IDPs and other vulnerable groups in the Ad Dali’ and Shabwah Governorates. This essential work is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (AA) in partnership with Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH).
The YFCA's hygiene promotion activities aim to cultivate a community understanding of water and health-related attitudes, significantly reducing disease incidences in local health centers. By fostering better hygiene practices, YFCA hopes to encourage lasting behavioral changes that will enhance the overall health of targeted communities, ensuring they have sustained access to safe drinking water.
As these efforts continue, YFCA remains dedicated to safeguarding the health and well-being of Yemen's most vulnerable populations.
