Al Azariq District, Ad Dali’ Governorate, Yemen – October 2024
In a bid to safeguard the health of Yemeni citizens and protect vital water resources, Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) ramped up its efforts to combat water-borne diseases, particularly cholera, which has claimed numerous lives, especially among women and children.
In collaboration with the General Authority for Rural Water and Sanitation Project (GARWASP) and local health offices, YFCA conducted 44 disinfection and chlorination campaigns and 36 water quality tests in September 2024. These initiatives were carried out by three dedicated volunteers and the YFCA team at both household and community levels in areas reporting cholera cases.
This initiative is part of the ongoing “Integrated and Multisectoral Health and WASH Rapid Response to Cholera Outbreak” project in Al Azariq district, funded by Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH). The project aims to:
• Enhance access to safe drinking water for residents in the targeted districts.
• Raise community awareness about the importance of using clean water, proper methods of water transportation and storage, water purification and sterilization, and avoiding harmful practices.
• Contribute effectively to reducing the spread of water-related epidemics and diseases.
By focusing on these critical areas, YFCA hopes to mitigate the impact of cholera and other water-borne diseases, ensuring a healthier future for the people of Yemen.
