YFCA conducted a comprehensive training on Well Management to ensure access to clean water. This training was part of the Multi-sectoral Emergency Response project, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office (AA) in partnership with Diakonie-Katastrophenhilfe (DKH). It was designed for five members (four males and one female) from community committees overseeing the Aqtheeth water community assets in the Ash Shu'ayb district of Ad Dali’ Governorate.
The training aimed to equip local committees with the necessary skills and knowledge to manage these vital resources effectively. The curriculum covered a wide range of topics, including:
• The importance of wells for human health and well-being
• Different types of wells and their components
• Safe and efficient operation and maintenance of wells
• Identifying and repairing minor malfunctions
• Developing and implementing a well maintenance plan
• Involving the community in well management and maintenance
Emphasizing community participation is crucial for the long-term sustainability of these wells. By empowering community committees with the skills and knowledge to care for their wells, the initiative ensures that these water sources remain operational and continue to provide water to all community members, even during times of crisis.
This training is a significant step towards enhancing the resilience of local communities in Yemen, ensuring they have the resources and capabilities to manage their water assets effectively.
