YFCA Trains Community Health Volunteers to Support Vulnerable Populations in Taiz Gov
Friday, 04 April, 2025

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen community health resilience, YFCA, with funding from Concern Worldwide, trained five Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) in Al-Wazi’iyah District, Taiz Governorate. This initiative falls under the project "Providing Essential and Integrated Health and Nutrition Services to IDPs and the Most Vulnerable Populations in Waziyah District, Taiz Governorate," aimed at improving healthcare access for displaced and at-risk communities.
The three-day refresher training in Taiz City, equipped volunteers with critical skills in malnutrition screening, infant and young child feeding (IYCF), hygiene promotion, and infectious disease prevention. The program combined classroom learning with hands-on practice at the Al-Ghareef Health Unit, where trainees applied their knowledge in real-world scenarios under professional supervision.
Strengthening Health Systems for Vulnerable Communities
The newly trained volunteers will now play a vital role in conducting community awareness sessions, promoting proper nutrition, preventing disease outbreaks (including cholera), and identifying malnutrition cases through Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) screenings. Severe cases will be referred to health facilities for urgent treatment, ensuring timely intervention for those most in need.
A Collaborative, Localized Approach
Implemented under the Localization framework, the project involved close coordination with Taiz Governorate and District Health Offices to select trainees and align activities with community needs. This approach ensures sustainability and empowers local actors to lead health interventions.
