As part of its ongoing humanitarian efforts to improve living conditions for conflict-affected communities, YFCA, with support from the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF), implemented a Cash for Shelter Maintenance intervention in Khayran Al Muharraq District, Hajjah Governorate.
The initiative targeted vulnerable households living in substandard and damaged shelters, providing them with conditional cash assistance to carry out essential maintenance and minor rehabilitation works. This approach empowers beneficiaries to prioritize their most urgent shelter needs while stimulating local markets and labor opportunities.
Through this intervention, beneficiary families were able to repair roofs, reinforce walls, fix doors and windows, and improve overall safety and privacy within their homes. The project not only enhanced shelter conditions but also contributed to restoring dignity and stability for families facing prolonged hardship due to years of conflict and displacement.
YFCA ensured a transparent and inclusive selection process, prioritizing the most vulnerable groups, including internally displaced persons (IDPs), female-headed households, and families with persons with disabilities. Technical guidance and monitoring were provided throughout the implementation to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the maintenance work.
This activity reflects YFCA’s commitment to delivering people-centered, flexible, and impactful humanitarian assistance that responds directly to community needs. By combining cash-based interventions with shelter support, the project contributes to safer living environments and strengthens the resilience of affected populations.
YFCA continues to work closely with partners and local communities to expand access to essential services and support recovery efforts across Yemen.
